Your Patio Furniture May Not Have a Warranty!

Updated: Mar 19

Patio furniture near the ocean or a saltwater pool offers a luxurious ambiance, blending comfort with the refreshing allure of aquatic surroundings. Manufacturers of aluminum, steel (wrought iron) and outdoor wicker recognize the unique challenges posed by the corrosive nature of saltwater, prompting them to limit warranties to protect themselves…not the consumer. However, the devil lies in the details, and consumers should carefully scrutinize warranty terms to identify any excluded materials or components.

Typically, most good outdoor wicker will have at least a 3 year warranty and up to 15 years for cast aluminum or steel. However, if you are going to place the furniture in a saltwater environment, (near the ocean or a saltwater pool) check the fine print of the warranty. A number of manufacturers do not warrant or at least drastically limit the warranty if placed in a saltwater environment.

This is typical language for manufacturers who impose limitations to the warranty because of a saltwater environment:

Despite any longer warranty period expressly stated herein, the seller’s warranties on the frame finish are limited to one (1) year from the date of original purchase on specified cast aluminum products on the matrix chart if the original purchaser places this product within five (5) miles of an ocean environment or salt water (whether indoors or outdoors), or around salt water pools or any enclosed pool, in pool shelves, and in zero entry pools.

In essence, navigating the warranty landscape for saltwater poolside patio furniture involves a meticulous understanding of coverage durations, inclusions, and maintenance prerequisites. Armed with this knowledge, consumers can confidently select patio pieces that not only elevate their poolside experience but also stand resilient against the corrosive embrace of saltwater.

So, when shopping for patio furniture, take your time. Be sure to do a little research on the brand. To check the warranty, just Google: “brand name” warranty.
